St. George's Anglican
Cathedral in Georgetown,
Guyana is one of the tallest
wooden structures in the
world, and the second tallest
wooden church, at a height
of 43.5 metres (132 feet). It
was considered the tallest
wooden church in the world
until 2003 when the Peri
Monastery near Săpânţa in
northern Romania was
finished
St. George's was designed
by Sir Arthur Blomfield and
opened on 24 August 1892.
The building was completed
in 1899. It is located on
Church Street in
Georgetown, and has been
designated a National
Monument.
The Public Buildings,
commonly referred to as the
Parliament Building, is the
building in which the
National Assembly of the
Parliament of Guyana and
its Committees meet.
The Public Buildings is
considered to be one of the
finest architectural
structures in Guyana.
Located in the heart of the
capital city of Georgetown,
close to Stabroek Market
and the Demerara River,
the two-storied brick
building features a low
dome, two wings and a
portico. The building was
constructed in 1832
according to the plan of
architect Joseph Hadfield
and was formally handed
over to the British colonial
legislature on 5th August,
1834.
KAIETEUR FALLS
The tumbling rivers and
dense rainforests
of Guyana are filled with
extraordinary
natural sights. Kaieteur
Falls,
where the 400-foot wide
Potaro River
plunges 822 feet
downward from
the Pakaraima Plateau,
is the
world's longest
single-drop waterfalls.

The XGDF Association of Guyana is a benevolent organization
and its membership will comprise ex soldiers of the
Guyana Defence Force from both its regular and reserve components
OBJECTIVES
To promote and maintain harmony and camaraderie amongex members of the
GDF  resident in Guyana. To establish and maintain an effective network of
communication linking ex-members of the GDF in Guyana.To provide support to
ex- Members of the GDF who may have become indigent and needy after leaving
the Force.
To maintain a close and meaningful relationship with the GDF.To establish a
Scholarship program to assist member’s children who demonstrate sound
academic potential. To collect, solicit, expend and disburse money in furtherance
of the foregoing purposes .To do any other thing incidental to, or connected with
the
foregoing purposes or in advancement thereof, but not for the
pecuniary profit or financial gain of its members, directors or officers.

XGDF GUYANA DECEMBER MEETING
At the December meeting of XGDF Guyana, Ossie Thierens (XGDF New York- Life
Member) was given the honor of presenting a walker, to veteran NCO/cook Bertie
Green. That presentation and the presentation of an Xmas hamper to the spouse
of the late veteran Norris Crandon, were on camera.

XGDF GUYANA HAMPER- SHARING
XGDF Guyana conducted a hamper-sharing exercise for Christmas, on 23
December.
* On a visit to the Palms, presentations were made to stroke victims Gordon Baird
(formerly of Sp Wpns Comd), Leon Campbell (aka “Sailor” formerly of GDF Band),
Cecil Williams (2GDF), and former S/Sgt Sansculotte.
*At Uncle Eddie’s Home Bertie Green and Victor Feline are greeted.
*At the Dharam Sala Stanley Leacock receives some Xmas cheer.
*The XGDF Guyana team led by retired Lt.Col George Gomes is featured in a
group photo with the matron of the Palms. Included in the team: Hector Stoute,
Beverly Sommerset, “Overseas” Barnwell, Jennifer Corbin, and Eric Cumberbatch.
